Welcome to Beautiful Phony Trances!

This is my blog about movies! The title comes from my most favorite movie of all time, Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 romantic mystery VERTIGO. That’s a movie I have seen close to 20 times, believe it or not.

What’s the blog about (beyond just movies)?

I’m still figuring it out, but my vision is to write about the films, the filmmakers, the themes, and the moments I love. The name of the blog isn’t just an obscure reference, but for me it represents what I love about cinema as an art form. There’s an inherent artifice to movies, and yet we are captivated, intrigued, frightened, and overall entertained by them. What does that mean? Let’s explore how filmmakers utilize the medium to tell the story in only a way a movie can.

Some things you’ll find on Beautiful Phony Trances

Movie analyses, general reviews, career retrospectives, quick thoughts. I’m still developing the blog but I am so honored for you to be along for the ride!
